A global buyer of printed circuit board assemblies faced a familiar challenge: suppliers were requesting significant price increases, citing rising commodity costs — but the buyer had no structured way to verify the claims or quantify the true cost exposure.
COVALYZE Analytics harmonized 45 BOM tables across 3 suppliers, standardizing component classifications, quantity fields, and material references into a unified cost model. For 6–7 selected designs, a full component- and process-level cost breakdown was built from scratch. The analysis revealed that solder paste costs had risen by an average of ~35% on a weighted basis — and that active components, not raw materials, remained the dominant cost driver across most assemblies.
With EUR 50M+ in procurement volume now fully transparent, the buyer could enter negotiations with fact-based cost structures rather than reacting to supplier narratives.
